Me
Let the show begin
From which script should I read
What role do I play, what words should I say
Do you want to laugh, I will call up the jester
How about a song, I’ll beckon the player
I’m just a puppet, never the master
If you came to see tears
I’m sorry, that show’s been cancelled
No one came to watch, the set was dismantled
Don’t worry, your ticket only buys a glimpse
You’ll only see what you want, I am certain
Nobody looks behind the curtain
Do you know who I am
Have you taken time to listen
Did you notice lines from my song are missing
Have you taken time to see
A façade in the mirror reflected
As you approach, I put on the face most expected
Don’t get too close or you’ll be disappointed
Yes, I’m sure, pardon my insistence
Props only look real from a distance
Every show is a lie after all
A lie we want to believe
Looking away from the magician’s sleeve
Fool’s gold is still gold that glistens
Until we learn real gold it is not
Then dreams of riches are soon forgot
Do you now know who I am
Did you taken time to listen
Did you find the lines of my song that are missing
Have you taken time to see
A façade in the mirror reflected
I put on the face you most expected
I don’t know who I am
So while I look for me
I will try to be who you need me to be
—Love,
Me
